Why Handmade Soap?

Don't Thank Me, Thank My Soap!

I guess you have heard by now that homemade soap is better than store bought soap.  That's true if the homemade soap is made from all natural ingredients.  You have different definitions of what is perceived as homemade.

Many beautiful soaps that we see are often crafted at home from a premixed solution known as Melt and Pour Soap. Some melt and pour soaps offer a healthier alternative to commercial soaps as many contains natural additives. Soapers are open to numerous choices that allow soapmakers to add as many natural additives as they like.

Many of the premixed solutions are made with the same ingredients we find in common household name store bought soaps.  However, I want to impress upon readers that it's better to have a close-to-natural melt and pour then an unatural soap. I will not incriminate anyone but I will share with you a few ingredients that might be in many of the commonly known store soaps:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfates are inexpensive foamers that produce lots of bubbles, and that's all it produces.  Putting this in a soap gives the illusion that it's working.

Tetrasodium EDTA- this is one of many synthetic preservatives that can be irritating to the mucous membranes of the eyes.
Sodium Isethionate is a synthetic detergent which is known to cause dryness to the skin
Why do you think so many pharmaceutical companies are constantly establishing new ways to put something on your skin. It seems convenient, mess free and easy. Right? Please understand that what you put on your skin, can enter your bloodstream if the molecules are big enough..hence, the nicotine patch?

That is why it is important to know what you are putting on your skin.  Homemade soaps tend to include all natural ingredients.  Ingredients that you can legibly read, and might even have in your kitchen.  For instance, CHEROKEEWEAH soaps include mostly certified organic ingredients in the soaps.

Have you ever heard of coconut oil?  Natural soaps contains a byproduct call glycerin which is a natural humectant that is moisturizing to the skin along with other benefits.  It's so valuable, many cosmetic manufacturers remove glycerin from the natural soap to reuse as a moisturizing ingredient for makeup, lotions and so forth.

Finally, I want to encourage you to consider making or purchasing your own natural soap.  Observe your "experience" with your soap.  Soap is a very personal thing..lol..and remember, don't thank the soaper, thank the soap.
